WTC 2010, the official results:

Now that we have a full report back from the fish processing plant, and I'm back from vacation, we can announce the official 2010 Westport event results.  Of note, there were some fish donated that did not meet the standard of being properly bleed but none of those were tagged.  Thus, the preliminary rankings stand. This year saw some substantial gains across the boards.  Numbers of fish donated to the NorthWest Harvest regional food bank rose from 178 ( 3880 LBS ) to 334 fish (7056 LBS).  the leading fish donators were Defiance Boats with 59, followed by THE CORNFED SHOW with 57 and we were also pleased to see teams step up to the table with dry goods donations which rose from 480 LBS to 1825 LBS which went to the South Beach Food Bank.  Dry goods donations were lead by teams Reda Fishing, Small Boat and EFISHINSEA.  With the tuna sport fishery a fraction of prior years due to high winds blowing the preceding weeks we were happy to have 36 teams participate.  All doubts over the proximity of the fish were put to bed with this year's results.

As part of this years Washington Tuna Classic, we upped our Wounded Warrior participation from five to 23 gentlemen from the Wounded Warrior Project and the Warrior Transition Battalion (many also members of WWP) to both go fishing and help run the event. With the help of the Charter Boat Association and Blue Eyes, we sent all of the WTB members out fishing for a full day of salmon fishing on Friday and all of the WWP and many of the WTB members went fishing again on Saturday and or Sunday.  Those who did not fish helped us man the event.  This worked out well and we will continue the program next year.

While we produce substantial results with the resources we have, we could do much more with greater resources in time, sponsors and finances.   Please consider pitching in to the cause throughout the year.

Shirt orders

Our drop dead date for shirt orders is very soon.  It's a one time per year, dated order so we need to get it close.  Last year, the late signups ended up with almost all of the extra shirts we hoped to sell so this year, the late signups are not guaranteed a shirt.  If you miss the order, we will do everything we can to hook you up after sales are over and you are welcome to buy a shirt too if you wish.  Everyone who has signed up will be receiving their free shirts as well as preorder extra T's, Longsleeves and Hoodies.  If you are not already signed up, let us know so we can include you in the order.  Times getting short so let us know if you are in to get included in the order!

We have the Wounded Warriors out fishing for Salmon on Friday thanks to Mark and the Charter Boat Association.  Many of them are hooked up with teams for game day as well as pre/post fishing with some teams but others have yet to make the connection.  Feel free to contact us if you would like to hook one up.

Our drawing has nearly eight thousand dollars worth of gear in it this year to include a four day trip to East Cape and a 54 gallon bait tank to include custom install in your boat.  You get Drawing tickets by turning in dry goods, for each fish donated and buy purchasing them at the banquet.  It even looks like the weather is lining up!

New update out on the email list: If you were a 2009 participant and did not receive the email, let us know.

Ladies and Gentlemen!
Thank you very much for your participation in our first event in 2009! We were quite pleased with how things turned out to include nearly four thousand pounds of donated tuna. This year is coming together with more sponsors and many significant upgrades. Of note, we put together a new website that now allows you to register for the event online. With your user name and password, you can modify the registration in any way to include signing up for side pots, add/edit team members etc with any web enabled device up until noon of Friday the 6th. We also now accept credit card and Paypal although we always encourage checks to save on those pesky bank fees.

Time does matter! August 7th is the high season in Westport and you had best consider arranging lodging and slip space ASAP if you want much of a choice. In order to ensure delivery we have to place shirt orders two weeks in advance. We lost a ton of shirt sales the first year as we gave guys shirts meant for sale when they signed up late. This year, teams must be signed up by July 24th to ensure receipt of the complementary crew shirts and pre orders of t-shirts, longsleeves and hoodies. If you sign up after the shirt order goes to press you can still buy them at game time.

We are also expanding our Wounded Warrior open seats program this year. Our first run was a bit chaotic due to such a large percentage of the teams piling on at the last minute. Due to this, we ended up leaving a few of them behind so we are changing up the process somewhat this year. We have made arrangements to bring 20 Wounded Warriors out to not just fill seats but as volunteers to work the event. This development solves a bunch of problems and gives teams direct access to take guys pre/post and game day fishing. We are putting them up in local hotels so that they will be present Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We currently have 16 teams registered and 7 Wounded Warriors placed so we expect this to work out well. Of note, our first place team last year pre and gameday fished with Wounded Warriors. The other teams who took Wounded Warriors did better than the averages. Karma is your friend. If you don't already have someone placed with you and want to take them fishing for tuna/salmon sometime just ask and we will hook you up.
Please sign up soon so you don't miss out!
