About the Washington Tuna Classic (WTC)

The Washington Tuna Classic is a registered 501(c) (3) charity founded on the basic principle of giving back to the community while having fun.  We are a truly hardcore fishing tournament with over ten thousand dollars in awards and donated prizes our first year but we find as many ways possible to give back to the community in the process.  We lead by example! The Washington Tuna Classic is an all volunteer organization.

The Board of Directors main focus is to give back to the community and especially to those who have protected our freedoms.  The decision to split the proceeds from the WTC was an easy one to come up with.  First, the Tuna donated is given to Northwest Harvest Food Bank.  Our first year resulted in 178 fish totaling nearly four thousand pounds.  The proceeds are used to fund participation of Wounded Warriors and to support local veterans through donations to Disabled American Veterans and local VA hospitals.  We are working with Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and the Wounded Warrior Project to identify and empower local programs and individuals who would best use the resources we generate each year.  Having been through some of these mechanisms our board members know that sometimes there is a gap between what bureaucracy provides and needs dictate. Our goal is to fill in where other programs fall short.

We believe that leadership is best done by example, thus none of the positions in the WTC are paid.  All proceeds beyond unavoidable cost goes directly to those in need.

We take great pride in saying this is not just the work of the Board members but dozens more within the local community have provided support in every conceivable way.  We wish to keep this a grassroots effort by the community for the community.

Please feel free to step up and help us make a difference!
